This flipchart provides an introduction to the basic vocabulary of expressions. It also provides beginning exercises in translating simple expressions from words to symbols.

OBJECTIVE: Given key vocabulary, student will be able to translate the meaning of basic symbols as well as identify the symbol from key words by reading simple phrases and referencing notes to determine the correct translation.

This flipchart uses the idea of magic words (to, from, & than) as reminders to flip a phrase's order to help in translating expressions. 

OBJECTIVE: Given written phrases, students will be able to translate the written phrases into mathematical expressions using symbols through use of the magic word rules.
