Variables and Algebraic Expressions

Students will learn to identify, write, and evaluate algebraic expressions.

TEKS 7.14A

In Holt Course 2, lesson 1-7, the concept of constants, variables, and
algebraic expressions are introduced.

Students will learn to evaluate algebraic expressions by
substituting a value for the variable, then simplifying the
expression.

The use of order of operations should be emphasized
when simplifying numerical expressions.

Variables & Expressions

Designed to accompany Holt Course 3, Chapter 1, Section 1, for 8th graders. Students will practice evaluating algebraic expressions for a given value of the variable. Review of vocabulary is included. Created by Michelle Fontenot.

Introduction to Expressions

This flipchart provides an introduction to the basic vocabulary of expressions. It also provides beginning exercises in translating simple expressions from words to symbols.

OBJECTIVE: Given key vocabulary, student will be able to translate the meaning of basic symbols as well as identify the symbol from key words by reading simple phrases and referencing notes to determine the correct translation.

Speed, Velocity and Acceleration

Physics 1 Academic: Grades 11 and 12

  • Students analyze examples of linear motion and accelerated motion.
  • Students calculate speed, velocity, acceleration of moving objects and investigate how forces affect motion in different frames of reference.
